| THE LATEST STATEMENT FROM THE COLONEL. |
| Spring 2006 Wow – what strange weather. Club members did a “pre-ride” of the Bikers with a Mission (BWAM) route on New Years Day which turned out to be a very nice day to ride (that should have been a clue). Then, on the first day of spring, there was snow in Kansas City, not to mention tornados and thunderstorms just a week earlier. This back and forth weather cycle is just unnatural. Hope the rest of the year isn’t like this! Speaking of spring, our biggest annual event – BWAM – is right around the corner. Plan to take a 100 mile ride with some of your close friends and neighbors on May 7. BWAM starts at VFW Post 5717 in Kearney and ends at the City Union Mission. Visit www.bikerswithamission.org for a sponsorship form, route information or to check on the cool prizes. Funds raised by this event go directly to the City Union Mission, an organization founded over 80 years ago to help people temporarily in need, families in crisis, and, of course, the homeless. Other big spring events include the Freedom of Road Riders Local 29 bike show at the VFW in Kearney, Missouri on April 2. This is always a great show, so come and enter your bike or check out the bikes on display. Later in April, Heart of God Fellowships at Buckner, Missouri, will have their 10th annual Biker Sunday on April 23rd. This will be the first Biker Sunday in Heart of God’s new church building just north of Buckner on the Buckner-Tarsney Road – just across the street from the Sibley Orchard. Later in May, some of us will pack up and head for West Virginia and the Veteran / POW / MIA rally – “LZ Rainelle” – at Rainelle, West Virginia on May 27, 2006. The rally is held a couple of days before Memorial Day. Check out Greasy’s website at www.greasyonline.com for more information about “LZ Rainelle”. Get your bike out, do some basic maintenance and head into the sunset (or snow storm, depending on the weather). See you on the road, Colonel |
